As the phenomenal four-month run of My Husband’s Lover (MHL)
draws to a close in early October, YES! Magazine pieces together
stories and photos of the GMA-7 soap that made primetime TV exciting
again.
The YES! October issue goes behind the scenes to give readers the backstory, highlights, interesting info, fun facts, and juicy details.
Top stars Dennis Trillo (as Eric, the gay lover), Carla Abellana (as Lally, the embattled wife), and Tom Rodriguez (as Vincent, the conflicted husband) reveal their feelings about being part of the groundbreaking gay-themed soap.
Carla maintains she had no qualms about accepting the project. “We are a conservative country—pero ako, naniniwala talaga na ready na ’yong people,” she points out.
Award-winning actor Dennis, initially apprehensive about playing a gay in a daily series, found that his intimate scenes with Tom were not difficult to pull off. “Dahil siguro seryoso kami mismo sa trabaho namin,” he says.
Tom agrees: “The craft of acting is so powerful na, for a brief moment, you could really embody another person.”
Now that MHL is ending, Carla confesses that she won’t miss playing Lally, but she will miss all the people she has worked with.
Dennis, on the other hand, is so happy about the show itself that saying goodbye makes him, in his words, "sad."
Tom, whose career benefitted the most from the show’s success, considers MHL special because “it sparks healthy debates for all the characters.”
