Barbara Miguel named Best Actress in New York for incest drama Nuwebe.

Napanalunan ni Barbara Miguel ang Best Actress award mula sa Harlem International Film Festival para sa kanyang pagganap sa 2013 Cinemalaya entry na Nuwebe.

Ginanap ang naturang film festival sa New York City mula September 11 hanggang 15. Una nang naibalit ng PEP Alerts noong September 17 na hindi nakadalo ang GMA-7 child actress sa awarding ceremony na ginanap kamakailan.

Ang indie film na Nuwebe ang nag-iisang Filipino film in competition sa naturang film festival. Tungkol ito sa kuwento ng isang 9-year old girl na nabuntis ng kanyang sariling ama (played by Jake Cuenca).

Naging isa sa entries ng New Breed Category ng 9th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival ang Nuwebe na dinirek ni Joseph Israel Laban. Kasama rin sa pelikula sina Nadine Samonte (na gumanap na ina ng karakter ni Barbara) at Anita Linda.

Imbitado rin ang Nuwebe sa Montreal and Vancouver International Film Festivals in Canada at sa Goteberg International Film Festival in Sweden.

Ito ang second acting award ni Barbara since pumasok ito sa showbiz noong 2011. Napanalunan niya ang best child actress award sa 61st FAMAS Awards para sa kanyang performance sa indie film na Migrante.
Unang nakilala si Barbara bilang si Kalila sa GMA primetime series na Munting Heredera at nasundan ito ng Aso Ni San Roque.
Nakasama rin si Barbara sa cast ng indie film na Bamboo Flowers na isa sa naging entries ng Sineng Pambansa National Film Festival All Masters Edition na dinirek ni Maryo J. Delos Reyes.
Ang Harlem International Film Festival or “Hi” ay nabuo para parangalan ang mga films na “honest and thought-provoking portrayals of our world.”
Ayon sa website ng naturang festival (www.harleminternationalfilmfestival.org ): “Hi actively seeks and exhibits fresh and dynamic works that possess a universal appeal.
Hi is committed to exemplifying the eminence that Harlem represents and is dedicated to bringing attention to the best filmmakers from around the world.
“The Hi experience integrates the best that Harlem has to offer – great restaurants, unique boutiques, world-class music venues, prestigious universities and cultural institutions, and a long history of excellence in the Arts.
“The Festival showcases features, documentaries, shorts, youth projects and animated works. Other events include panel discussions, nightlife, the Brownstone Awards and the Renaissance Awards gala.
“In addition to showcasing some of the finest films from around the world, the Festival also features the Harlem Spotlight, which highlights films produced or directed by Harlem residents, films shot in Harlem, or films about Harlem and her history.”

Kabilang sa Board of Advisors ng Hi ay sina Oscar winner Susan Sarandon, Oscar nominated director Mira Nair, Obie winning playwright Eve Ensler and Emmy award-winning actor Keith David.
Ang pelikulang Clutter na bida sila Natasha Lyone, Carol Kane at Joshua Leonard ang nanalong Best Film ng Hi for 2013.

Ang Best Actor naman ay napanalunan ni Mike Wiley for DAR HE: The Lynching of Emmett Till.
Best director is Eric Haywood of Four Of Hearts.
