This was the simple reason Kris Aquino gave when quizzed about her recent decision to buy a franchise of a popular fast food chain, on top of her duties as a television host.
In her morning talk show "Kris TV" on Wednesday, Aquino clarified that she bought the franchise with her "hard-earned money" and was not part of her renewed contract with the fast food chain.
Dubbed as local showbiz's "Queen of All Media," Aquino is considered to be one of the most bankable stars in show business. She is one of the country's leading celebrity endorsers, and currently the host of both "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" and "The Buzz."
"It is my hard earned cash. Pera ko 'to talaga. Hindi ito galing sa talent fee because I felt I would have less at stake [would have been less committed] kung talent fee lang, so kailangan talaga galing sa pera na pinag-ipunan," she said.
Aquino, who is now on her 18th year in the entertainment industry, also hinted at a possible exit in 2016 -- the same year her brother, President Benigno Aquino III, is set to step down from office.
"The reason also na pinasok ko 'to is that I should have several fast food franchises because this is for the future of my son. Kasi parang inisip ko: How much longer can I work at this level that I work? And fame is so fleeting," she said.
"Sobrang suwerte ko na 18 na years na ako dito. May cutoff din ako. Sinabi ko na after 20 years, sana I can walk away gracefully. Siyempre naman kailangan mabuhay ng mga anak ko," Aquino added.
