Aya Medel, one of the most prolific sexy actresses in the late 1990s
and early 2000s, is now a chef and restaurateur in her hometown of
Tabaco City in Albay.
She will launch her own restaurant, IshiAya’s Garden Bistro, in May. The name is a portmanteu of her name and that of her daughter Ishi, from her former marriage to Japanese businessman Yoji Hayakawa.
“Di alam ng marami ng nag stop ako mag showbiz I went back to school to pursue my dream to be a Professional Chef,” she posted on Facebook on Monday.
Aya — who has 44 filmography credits in her Internet Movie Database entry — finished a culinary course at the renowned Center for Asian Culinary Studies in 2008. “Proud to say I got 2 medals,” she said, claiming to have been awarded a silver medal each for professional culinary arts and professional baking.
She considers the school’s founder and president, chef Gene Gonzalez, and chef Junjun de Guzman as her mentors.
IshiAya Bistro will serve international cuisine, authentic Japanese Yakiniku food and local dishes.
