Like many of her fellow celebrities, Angelica Panganiban is doing her share in providing relief for the typhoon victims in the south.
Together with the rest of the cast of her gag show “Banana Split” as well as invited friends from the industry, the actress will be auctioning off personal items, a good number of which she says has “sentimental value” for her.
“The prices of these items vary. Some are expensive, some are affordable. We will announce the details of what we’re going to sell and where the profits will go hopefully by next week,” she told InterAksyon and other entertainment media Thursday during the launch of Excelente Brandy that she is endorsing.
On her Instagram account, Angelica gave a preview of the auction by posting a photo of a pair of spiked stilettos she plans to auction.
“Good as new!!!! Who’s excited for our banana auction??? P.S humihingi din po kami ng tulong sa mga kaibigan namin sa industriya at lahat po ng tulong ninyo ay mapupunta sa isang foundation na ipapaalam po namin sa inyo next week kasabay ng pag sisimula ng auction. sa lahat po ng mga kaibigan namin, pwede niyo po akong lapitan kung gusto niyong sumali. Wll be announcing details hopefully by early next week. Bangon Pinas!!!,” she also tweeted.
Angelica said the auction is just her own little way of helping those affected by killer Yolanda. The actress, who was in Bohol with her “Banana Split” co-stars when the recent 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck, has since developed a soft spot for disaster victims, especially after feeling blessed to have “survived” her own personal brush with calamity.
“Ngayon alam ko na ang pakiramdam kapag akala mo magpapaalam ka na sa mundo,” she posted in her Instagram account back then.
In addition to the upcoming “Banana Split” auction, Angelica will also grace the ABS-CBN all-star benefit concert “Tulong Na, Tabang Na, Tayo Na” this Saturday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. “I’ll be there to show my support but not to perform,” she added.
Given that relief goods and donations are coming in droves, the actress expressed concern that they will go to their intended beneficiaries, a good number of which are still waiting for any help that will come their way.
“I hope all the help will truly go to the victims. And I hope they will also be put to good use,” she said.
Despite the fact that the year has turned out to be a difficult one for many of her countrymen, including her fans who are based in disaster-stricken areas, Angelica is very grateful for the good projects have come her way for this year.
Aside from her endorsement deals, Angelica got positive feedback for her portrayal of Rosanna and Rebecca Del Sol in the primetime teleserye “Apoy Sa Dagat”, which aired for five months during the first half of the year.
“Banana Split” is now on its 5th year and she is the only remaining original cast member that’s still with the show since it debuted back in 2008.
Since her groundbreaking mature role in Laurice Guillen’s “Santa Santita” in 2004, the former child star has become one of the country’s sought-after leading ladies and has been honored for her performances in lead and supporting roles a total of four times in her career.
Her latest film, “Alamat ni China Doll” is the entry of prolific filmmaker Adolfo Alix, Jr. inth e Cinema One Plus section of the ongoing Cinema One Originals film festival. Written by equally acclaimed filmmaker Lav Diaz and boasting of a stellar cast that includes Cesar Montano and Phillip Salvador, it is one of the most anticipated films in the festival.
“I’m very excited about it as it is my first full-length independent film,” she exclaimed. As for another possible acting award for her performance, Angelica said she will be very happy if people would just watch the film and like it.
