The Film Development Council of the Philippines announced on Monday
the winners of the Genre Film Scriptwriting Competition it launched in
late last year.
Three scripts were chosen to win P200,000 each, while six were awarded P100,000 each. The competition jury was supposed to select 12 winners in all — six for both cash prizes — but picked only nine, declining to award three slots in the top tier.
The top three scripts and their respective writers and genre, each garnering a prize of P200,000.00, in alphabetical order, are: “Habagat” (hybrid) by Eduardo Lejano, “Jeepney, Jeprox, A Pinoy Rak” (comedy) by Agustin del Mundo Sugatan Jr., and”Wakasan” (action) by Jose Alejandro M. Eduarte.
The six succeeding scripts and their respective writers and genre, each garnering a prize of P100,000.00, in alphabetical order, are: “As One” (horror) by Juvy Grado Galamiton, “Bacao” (thriller) by Edgardo Vinarao, “Frat War” (horror) by Hector M. Fernandez, “Maligamgam” (comedy) by Jerome Zamora, “Misteriyoklas (The Beki Files)” (hybrid) by Mario L. Mendez Jr., and “The Unbelievers” (action) by Reuben R. Canoy.
The FDCP will hold a pitching conference for the nine winning scripts at the Asian Institute of
Management next month to option them with local and international producers. The finished films will be exhibited in a festival later this year.
