"The Voice Kids" runner-up Darren Espanto is only days away from fulfilling his dream of staging a solo concert.
The 13-year-old will perform at a sold-out show to be held on Saturday at the Music Museum in San Juan City.
According to Espanto, will concert will show different sides of him as a performer. During his stint on "The Voice Kids," wherein he placed second to 9-year-old Lyca Gairanod, the Canada-born teen was known not only as a powerhouse vocalist but also as a dancer.
Speaking with ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe on Wednesday, Espanto said the journey to reaching his dream was not without sacrifices. Pursuing a career in the Philippines means having to be apart from some of his family members, who are based in Calgary.
Nonetheless, Espanto is making the most out of his showbiz breakthrough. The rising star said "Ngayon," his finale performance in "The Voice Kids," best encapsulates this time of his life.
"I really like the message [of the song], and I think it relates to me po, kasi it's like saying, 'This is my time and this is my now,'" he said.
Here's Espanto's full 16-minute interview, wherein he also talked about his showbiz crush, the guest stars at his concert, and what he learned from singing champion Jed Madela:
