In spite of being one of the most popular stars of his generation, Piolo
Pascual has always preferred to keep his personal life private. Now, in
a rare opportunity, the Ultimate Heartthrob opened up on his love life
and career struggles in his E! News Asia special which was aired last
Sept. 28.
Here are some of his revelations in the episode:
1. Piolo had his son Iñigo DNA-tested.
Piolo was 20 when his girlfriend at the time became pregnant with their son Iñigo. Chiqui Gonzales, the actor’s sister, recalls, “He was in denial. He doesn’t want to accept that Iñigo was his son. They had this DNA test and it was 99.99% [positive].”
He shares how fatherhood changed him for the better.
“When he came to my life, I was already working. I had to prioritize… But it was good, it wasn’t an overnight change,” Piolo says. “When I look at him… he would make me feel that I had to be responsible for him because he would look up to me. He would copy what I do. So, I had to be responsible…”
2. He still loves ex-girlfriend KC Concepcion, but…
Piolo’s short-lived romance with KC Concepcion became one of the hottest showbiz items in 2011. While KC did a tell-all with “The Buzz,” Piolo kept his silence – and for a reason.
“Either way she’s gonna come out with it. You know what I felt? I felt bad for her because she didn’t have to resort to that,” he confesses. “I still love her with all my heart. But it’s just something that she did that I wish she didn’t do.”
3. Piolo shares how he deals with haters.
“Sometimes it gets the better of you when you’re caught at a time when you’re so vulnerable and sensitive and you end up answering back and sometimes you regret doing that,” he says. “It’s part of what you signed up for… It’s how you deal with it.”
4. “I prefer to be anonymous.”
Piolo’s previous revelation that he wanted to retire from showbiz became a shocker, especially to fans who still believe that he has more to offer.
“One of the reasons why I wanted to quit was because I wanted to get my life back. I thought I reached the glass ceiling,” he says. “If you ask me if I’m gonna miss being popular, it’s one thing I dread the most. I prefer to be anonymous, I prefer to keep to myself. Thinking about quitting makes me feel that there is something else other than showbiz.”
5. He’ll never get used to working on Sundays.
Although Piolo has been with variety show “ASAP” for several years now, he, surprisingly, has yet to get used to working on Sundays.
“Every week is a struggle for me. I never get used to waking up early on a Sunday because it’s supposed to be your rest day,” he reveals. “As much as I never get used to it, it never gets old.”
6. His confidence was dwindling during “Starting Over Again.”
The 2014 Star Cinema film “Starting Over Again” was one of Piolo’s most successful projects in the nearly 20 years he’s been in showbiz. Yet not a lot of people knew that his confidence was so low then.
“I was intimidated by the environment… by the director, by everyone… by everything that was happening. I told my director, I don’t know what to do. I had to be honest. It was too much for me to take because it’s saying that you’re not a good actor,” he says.
When the film raked in more than half a billion pesos in the box office, it became a sign of sorts for the well-admired singer-actor-host.
“That’s not something I asked for. I was just doing my job. When it happened, it just happened. Maybe it’s not yet my time to quit,” he says with a smile.
