World famous Empire State Building
in New York City donned the Philippine flag colors (blue, red and
white) on Firday night (Saturday morning in Manila), a week after Super
Typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan) devastated many areas in
Visayas.
The gesture was done in order to raise international awareness of the Typhoon Haiyan tragedy which claimed thousands of lives and destroyed houses and buildings.

International aid
has been pouring in after the massive storm struck the Philippines on
November 8 claiming at least 3,631 dead, 12,487 injured and 1,179 still
missing, according to the national disaster council.
As of November 15, the estimated value
of international assistance is now amounting to P5.4 billion (USD 126.8
million) from 43 countries, according to DFA spokesperson Secretary
Albert del Rosario.
