"Maria Mercedes" Debuts Strongly; Captures Top 5 Spot in Overall Ratings
The Philippine remake of "Maria Mercedes" broke into the top five most watched programs nationwide on Monday, marking a strong debut for the Jessy Mendiola-starrer.
The drama series' pilot episode aired on October 7, according to data from multi-national market research group Kantar Media, registered a national TV rating of 23.8%.
Its competing program aired on GMA-7, "Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas," lagged
behind by as much as 10 percentage-points, having garnered only 13.2% in
nationwide ratings on the same day.
The strong draw of "Maria Mercedes" in viewership scored a top five
sweep for ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida block, ratings data showed.
The adaptation of the Mexican series starring Thalia ranked fifth among
the Philippines' most watched programs on Monday. "Juan dela Cruz"
topped the list with 35.1%, followed by "TV Patrol" (30.2%), "Got to
Believe" (29.4%), and "Annaliza" (26.2%), respectively.
Directed by Chito Rono, "Maria Mercedes" airs weeknights after "Got to Believe" during ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida block.
