Despite the fact that fans are very much aware that they’re not a real-life couple, the popular love team of Shaira Mae de la Cruz and Mark Neumann dubbed as “Shark” remains stronger than ever, especially after receiving favorable feedback for their last team-up together on TV5’s recently concluded sitcom “Confessions of a Torpe”.
Although Shaira Mae already went public with her relationship with fellow Kapatid star Edgar Allan Guzman and Mark remains mum about his own personal life, the two “Artista Academy” grads are still good friends and actually prefer to work with each other.
“Close din naman kami ng boyfriend ni Shaira. Kuya Edgar nga ang tawag ko dun,” Mark recently told InterAksyon. “I love working with Shaira. I’m very comfortable with her. If they give me another partner, I may have to adjust. But with her, it’s a lot easier.”
Shaira concurred and was likewise elated when she learned that she and Mark would headline the second offering of TV5’s “Wattpad Presents”, which premieres on September 29 at 7PM.
On the mini-series “Mr. Popular meets Ms. Nobody” written by Pinkyjhewelii and directed by acclaimed Cinemalaya filmmaker Jay Altarejos, the two stars find themselves in a different kind of campus romance.
“I play the role here of Chelsea, a scholar na ulila na mahirap lang pero sobrang matapang. Ayoko ng inaapi-api ako. So one time nung inapi ako ni Kyle played by Mark, nilabanan ko siya. Sabi ko, ‘Hindi mo ko pwedeng ganyan-ganyanin’. Hindi ko alam na siya pala ang anak ng may-ari ng school so nagalit siya sa akin,” Shaira revealed.
“Bilang ganti niya sa akin, ginawa niya akong slave. Nagkaroon kami ng kontrata na kailangan sumunod ako sa utos niya within 100 days. Since mahirap lang ako at praktikal naman, sumunod lang ako sa gusto niya. Ayoko din kasing matanggal sa school at wala namang tumutulong sa akin.”
Mark’s character, a varsity player, gives Shaira a hard time in an effort to further drive her crazy. But although the time they went to spend together is far from romantic, he slowly finds himself attracted to her especially when he notices that his best friend (Diego Loyzaga), who is sympathetic to her plight, is becoming closer to her.
“Nagkagusto na rin naman ako sa character ni Mark. Kasi kahit mayabang siya at pusong bato, nakita ko rin naman na may soft side siya,” Shaira added.
Writer Jewel Atienza a.k.a. Pinkyjhewelii told InterAksyon that the story is inspired by the experience of her friends. The young Pharmacy major who has already written three published books on Wattpad admitted that she’s not really familiar with most celebrities since she doesn’t watch TV.
“Pero nung nakita ko in person sina Shaira and Mark, naging excited na ako. Grabe, gustong-gusto ko sila for my story,” she enthused.
Both Shaira and Mark said they’re both fans of Wattpad. Shaira had already read Wattpad’s “She’s Dating a Gangster” long before it was adapted into a movie while Mark said he’s more partial to stories about the zombie apocalypse.
“Mr. Popular Meets Ms. Nobody” also boasts of a strong veteran supporting cast that includes Lander Vera Perez, Shirley Fuentes, Carlos Morales, and Ms. Perla Bautista. Aside from Diego Loyzaga, other up-and-coming young talents in the cast are Pam Mendiola, Donnalyn Bartolome, Bryan Olano and Prince Justine Navarro.
