Vic Sotto, Vice Ganda, Kris Aquino, Robin Padilla and ER Ejercito Stars of the Official Entries to the 40th Metro Manila Film Festival.

With Vic Sotto, Vice Ganda, Kris Aquino, Robin Padilla and ER Ejercito again in the mix, it looks like the 40th edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival will be very much like its 39th.

This after the selection committee of the MMFF announced the eight official entries Saturday and posted on the MMFF’s official Facebook and Twitter pages.

Five of the eight entries are sequels. Three of them star the MMFF’s top box office draws last year.
There’s “My Big Bossing’s Adventures” starring Vic Sotto and Ryzza Mae Dizon, “Feng Shui 2” headlined by Kris Aquino and “Praybet Benjamin 2” topbilled by Vice Ganda and featuring Kris’ son Bimby as confirmed by the Queen of All Media in recent interviews.

The two other sequels are “Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles” headlined by two-time MMFF Best Actor Dingdong Dantes and Lovi Poe; and returning after an absence of one year is “Shake, Rattle and Roll 15”, the latest installment of the blockbuster horror franchise.

Robin Padilla, Best Actor winner in last year’s MMFF is also in with the Andres Bonifacio biopic, “Bonifacio, Gusto Mo Ba Siyang Makilala?” while his main rival for the acting plum, ER Ejercito is also back with “Magnum Muslim .357”.

Rounding up the official entries is “English Only Please”, a romantic comedy starring Sam Milby and Angeline Quinto.

Aside from the eight official entries, the MMFF also named two other films in the “waiting list” that could replace any one or two films that might withdraw from the film festival or are disqualified for whatever reason.

These two films are “Kid Kulafu” starring Cesar Montano and directed by Paul Soriano and “Kung ang Hanap Mo ay Ligaya sa Buhay” starring Boots Anson Roa and directed by Elwood Perez.

On the same weekend that Nora Aunor was not among those proclaimed by Malacañang as National Artists, her entry “Whistleblower” directed by Adolfo Alix, Jr. was among the other three semifinalists that did not make the final cut.

Pepe Diokno’s “Above The Clouds” starring Joey “Pepe” Smith and Val Iglesias’ “Bonggagster” starring BB Gandanghari also failed to make the cut.
