Kapamilya Actress Sunshine Cruz denies dating Ejay Falcon: ‘I'm not a cougar’

Sunshine Cruz said she enjoys working with the entire cast of Galema: Anak ni Zuma. “Andi (Eigenmann) is a very nice girl, mabait naman siya and she's a really good actress. Parang gripo ang mata. It's also been a long time since I worked with my cousin Sheryl Cruz and I'm very blessed to have opportunities na makatrabaho sila especially si direk Wenn Deramas na alam naman nating napakagaling na director na talagang box-office director kahit sa TV at pelikula so I'm very happy na after a long time that I am now working again and marami tayong nakakatrabaho na mababait at magagaling na tao,” she shared.

Sunshine said she has no problem playing a mother role for the second time. She also played a similar role in last year's Kapamilya series Dugong Buhay. “Wala namang transition na nangyari. Nagkaroon ako ng mga stepchildren na ka-age nila Ejay Falcon and Arjo Atayde so it wasn't really hard for me kasi especially yung stepson ko who passed away, laging humihingi ng advice sa akin yun. 

 

Nung binigay sa akin yung role, hindi naman ako nailang kasi mommy na naman talaga ako eh and ganun talaga, yun naman yung trend ngayon, pabata ng pabata na ang mga mommies. So inisip ko nga na kung totoong anak ko si Ejay at si Arjo, ilang taon ako nag-asawa? Kinompute compute ko and parang dapat 16 pa lang ako nag-asawa na ako or 13 pa lang ako nag-asawa na ako (laughs). Nakakatawa lang pero I'm very happy that I was considered for my role in Dugong Buhay and now Galema at iisa lang ang naging pangalan ko dun, sa Dugong Buhay I was Isabel Delara, napakagandang role. At ngayon naman ako si Isabel Castillo na napakaganda pa rin ng role bilang second mom ni Andi,” she explained.

After Dugong Buhay ended, Sunshine admitted that she and the rest of the cast members had become good friends and would still keep in touch and meet up on group dates. “Lumalabas kami, lahat kami as in with the director, with our production manager, with our assistant directors, with all the cast kasama sila tito Nonie Buencamino, Lito Pimentel. So we would go out pero ewan ko, hindi naman group date ang tawag dun eh, talagang gimik lang ng isang pamilya or barkadahan eh,” she said.

It was her closeness with the cast that led to speculations that there was something going on between her and Ejay. Sunshine denied that they are more than just friends and colleagues. “It's really weird kung bakit ako kailangan ma-intriga sa napakabata (laughs). Kaya nga sabi ko nga kay Ejay, 'Anak ha na-chi-chismis tayo, kalokohan yun. Basta anak kita!' He calls me Miss Shine and Arjo kasi calls me mommy. Sabi niya sa akin, 'oo nga Miss Shine eh, siyempre kasi sa iba it's not impossible for people like us na mas bata sayo na ma-attract pa rin sa katulad mo kasi you look young for your age.' Sabi ko, 'Even though. It's still weird.' so natatawa na lang din kami. 

 

We find it funny kasi sa tinatrato mo and I call him anak up to now. Kasi meron kaming Dugong Buhay group sa Viber, so it's like a family and I call him and Arjo 'mga anak ko.' sinasabi ko, 'Anak how are you?' ganyan, 'Sino nililigawan natin ngayon?' Ganun ako sa kanila and then suddenly ma-li-link ka, ma-ba-blind item ka. Unang una I'm not a cougar. 

 

Secondly, hindi ako mahilig sa bata kasi nga nagkaron ako ng stepson na halos ka-edad nila and kung yung aking ex ay 15 years older than me so I want someone who is kahit mas mature sa akin and kung pipili ako sa susunod ng love life, I will see to it na hindi mas bata sa akin. That is funny. That was hilarious talaga,” she shared.

As an actress who put aside her career to make time for her family, Sunshine admitted she looks forward to doing more challenging roles this year. “Well itong mga role na nakukuha ko ngayon, it's really challenging. Yung sa Dugong Buhay I played someone na nangungulila sa anak na namatay na si Ejay pala yun so I never expected na ganun kabigat yung role.

 

 And they were all supportive naman. Dito rin sa Galema I was thinking na second mom lang naman ako ni Andi pero wow, talagang nakaka-tense din especially pag ka-eksena mo napaka-gagaling na artista like Andi, ate Sheryl, Ms. Divina Valencia, Meg Imperial na napakabago pa pero napakagaling na artista. Hindi naman ako sobrang choosy but if given a role na meaty talaga, I'll see to it that I'll do my very best para ma-satisfy naman ang ating director,” she said.
