Jay R Protégés Kley Hope to make a Bigger Impact with Latest Single.

Formed in 2008 by the singing-songwriting duo of Deejay Poblete and Noah Zuñiga, the alternative pop-rock band Kley have been under the mentorship of R&B prince Jay R who signed them to his Homeworkz label.

Since the release of their self-titled debut album last year, Kley have been making making a lot of noise, scoring a big radio hit with their first single “Tsismosa” this year while also climbing the music video charts of Pinoy Myx Countdown. They also recently embarked on a 20-city nationwide bar tour.

In an interview with InterAksyon during the recent video launch for their latest single, “Hintayin”, lead singer Deejay Poblete revealed how the band was formed that led to their unusual name.

“We actually came from other bands and different musical backgrounds. Our name is a play on the word clay because just like the modeling clay that we used to play with at school, we just sort of molded together,” she explained.

Together with Zuñiga on acoustic guitar, Geo Blones on bass, Rey Corcelles on lead guitar and Ralph Ruiz on drums, the band plays catchy rock tunes inspired mostly by influences as diverse as No Doubt, Switchfoot, Dave Matthews Band, Alanis Morissette, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Oasis and the Eraserheads.

Despite being identified with hip-hop and R&B, Jay R said he took the band under his wing because he loved Kley’s music even as he admitted he has “a different set of ears”.

“I ultimately rely on my first instinct. I still rely on music that I like and I liked what I heard from this band,” the 32-year-old artist also told InterAksyon.

Like Jay R, Deejay is also a Fil-Am born and raised in Los Angeles. She moved to the Philippines in 2007 with the intention of pursuing a musical career here. In 2012, she became the champion of “Pinoypop Superstar” and gained public attention when she and Jay-R interpreted Zuñiga’s “Dulo ng Dila”, an entry to the first Philippine Pop Music Festival.

Distinguished by her soulful, soaring vocals, charismatic stage presence and fluent command of Tagalog, which is surprising for someone who grew up in the US, Deejay is the anchor that allows Kley’s music to resonate with an audience that continues to grow with every new gig.

With the acoustic ballad “Hintayin”, Kley hope to strike a more lasting chord as it climbs the Top 20 of Pinoy Myx Countdown. The video also includes a cameo from Jay R who also has a guest appearance in the album along with sought-after rapper Gloc 9.
