Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2013 Ariella
Arida left Manila Thursday noon to begin her journey as the country’s
representative in the Miss Universe pageant.
The 24-year-old University of the Philippines-Los Banos Chemistry
graduate from Alaminos, Laguna flew to Hong Kong where she will stay
overnight before boarding her connecting flight to Moscow on Tuesday.
This year’s Miss Universe competition will be held in the Russian capital, where the winner will be crowned at the Crocus City Hall on November 9.
Arida is expected to contend for the crown after the ascending runner-up finishes of the Philippines’ candidates in the last three years. Venus Raj won 4th runner-up in 2010, Shamcey Supsup 3rd runner-up in 2011, and Janine Tugonon 1st runner-up last year.
Only two Filipinas have won the Miss Universe crown — Gloria Diaz in 1969 and Margie Moran in 1973.
Arida will compete with candidates from 85 other countries and territories, including two with Filipino ancestry — Riza Santos of Canada and Ruth Jennifer Ondo Mouchita of Gabon.
