SanMig Coffee Mixers escaped the Meralco Bolts in a battle for second seed by just a point.
It was a battle of runs and comebacks, as SanMig Coffee Mixers had a 12-point lead early in the second quarter. The Meralco Bolts then battled back to trim down the lead 47-50 at the end of the first half. Then they took the lead late in the third quarter at 66-57. The Mixers cut the deficit to just six entering the final quarter and started a 14-4 run to grab the lead back. The Bolts fired back-to-back treys in the closing seconds of the game, inching closer at 87-88 with a 10.7 seconds remaining. Rafi Reavis inbounded the ball to Marc Pingris on the other side of the court, but Mario West intercepted it, took it to their side of the court, threw the ball in the air with no chance of getting in.
Marqus Blakely scored the team-high 24 points plus 13 rebounds and 50% free throw shooting at 6-for-12. PJ Simon was chosen as the best player of the game with his 20 points.
West with game-high 31 points did not give the Bolts that second seed finish. Cliff Hodge and John Wilson also tallied double-digit scores with 19 and 13 respectively.
