MANILA - ABS-CBN's Star Cinema has had an amazing run for the past four years at the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
Collectively, the nine entries from the film production outfit screened for the duration has earned more than P2 billion.
In an article released Wednesday, Star Cinema detailed the gross earnings of each film, adding that the outfit's dedication in telling fitting stories for the Filipino family contributed to the overall success.
Topping the list of the nine films is the 2013 comedy "Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy," which boasts a record box office haul of more than P436 million alone, making it the country's top grossing film of all time.
"Sisterakas," the film starring the trio of Vice Ganda, Kris Aquino, and Ai Ai delas Alas, was the second top-earner with P393 million, followed by "Enteng Ng Ina Mo." The film, which also stars Vic Sotto, was named Second Best Picture in 2011.
"One More Try," the drama featuring Angel Locsin, Dingdong Dantes, Zanjoe Marudo and Angelica Panganiban in lead roles, was fourth on the list with P204 million.
Rounding up the top five was "Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last Na To)," which won Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Director in 2010. It grossed more than P187 million.
Other films mentioned was "I Love You Goodbye (2009), "Dalaw" (2010), "Segunda Mano" (2011), and the Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo-starrer "Pagpag: Siyam na Buhay" (2013).
'2014 success'
For this year's MMFF, Star Cinema released two films: "The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin" and the sequel to "Feng Shui." Both films are among the top earners, with the former grossing almost P400 million as of writing.
"Feng Shui," which features Kapamilya stars Kris Aquino and Coco Martin, has earned more than P200 million, according to Star Cinema.
Overall, the film festival already earned P949 million nationwide as of January 5, Metro Manila Development Authority chairman Francis Tolentino said. In comparison, the 2013 MMFF earned P936 million in the same period.
