"It's Showtime" kicked off its month-long anniversary celebration on
Wednesday with a grand number featuring its co-hosts performing dance
crazes it popularized in the past year.
Each of the mainstays -- Coleen Garcia, Kim Atienza, Ryan Bang, Jugs Jugueta, Teddy Corpuz, Jhong Hilario, Karylle, Billy Crawford, Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis, and Vice Ganda -- took turns on stage dancing to tunes identified with them, drawing cheers from the "madlang people."
All of them then danced to "Boom Panes," Vice Ganda's popular dance tune, which was launched on the noontime program in May.
To mark its anniversary month, "It's Showtime" also debuted a new, more colorful logo, which has been teased in the past weeks.
The ABS-CBN variety show debuted in October 2009 as a morning talent search, at the time called "Showtime." It updated its title to the current one when it was moved to the noontime slot in 2012.
The month-long celebration of "It's Showtime's" fifth anniversary will once again have co-hosts form four to five teams to compete in "Magpasikat," the traditional week-long talent showdown of the mainstays.
Last year, the group of Karylle, Corpuz, and Jugueta won "Magpasikat" after a confusing sing-and-stunt number which only made sense when played backwards.
In previous editions of "Magpasikat," the winning team got P100,000 for their chosen charity. On Wednesday, "It's Showtime" had yet to announce if new mechanics or rewards will be introduced in the highly anticipated segment.
