The former ABS-CBN actor, then a staple in sitcoms such as "Palibhasa Lalake" and "OK Fine Whatever," was known as the bald, funny man with a round physique. That is, until 2006.
That year, Meily started to join running events, which led to a physical transformation coinciding with his new image as a professional magician.
"Six years ago nag-start 'yon," he said of being a competitive runner on the Tuesday episode of ABS-CBN's "Singing Bee," where he was a contestant. "Siyempre, mataba ako no'n."
Instead of cutting down on his food intake, Meily said he, in fact, had to eat more to fuel his long-distance runs. "Totally changed, siyempre, ang lifestyle. No diet! Actually, mas malakas ako kumain ngayon. Kaya lang, nagiging gasolina ko siya," he explained.
Over the years, Meily went from a beginner runner to a regular competitor in various running events here and overseas.
"From 30 minutes, hanggang kilometer to kilometer. Then, nag-compete ako, internationally and locally, from 5K, 10K, 21K, to 42K. That's it," he said.
Now 45 lbs. lighter than his weight back in 2006, Meily's fitness story often commands the same attention as his magic tricks on TV or on stage.
