Two Actresses, Crossover Candidates Lead this Year’s Miss World PH field.

Two young actresses are among the 26 candidates of Miss World Philippines 2014 presented to media Wednesday at the Eclipse Bar of Solaire Resort & Casino.
One of them is former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate Valerie Weigmann (Candidate No. 19) who also had a memorable stint with TV5 last year when she was cast in the superhero teleserye “Kidlat” as the sexy but mysterious villainess Enigma.

Weigmann, 22, was born and raised in Germany but has been living in the country for the last five years. A sought-after ramp and commercial model, Weignmann is already considered one of the early favorites to win the title currently held by Miss World 2014 Megan Young who also happens to be an actress like her.

Another actress in the field of 26 is Nicole Kim Donesa (Candidate No. 14) who is currently a contract star of GMA Network where she has appeared on several shows but is best known for her recent stint in the hit gag show “Bubble Gang”.

Donesa is not only an actress but also a Binibining Pilipinas contestant in 2013 where she represented Quezon City and won the special award Miss Philippine Airlines. The Filipino-American charmer is not the only crossover candidate in the pageant, though.

Priscilla Kimberly de la Cruz (Candidate No. 4) was a Mutya ng Pilipinas 2012 candidate who, like Megan, is also a native of Olongapo City. Ranielah Marie Oval was a semifinalist in Miss Bikini Philippines 2013, while Ina Dominica Guerrero from Daraga, Albay was also a contestant in Miss Earth Philippines 2012.

This year’s pageant was rocked with controversy in its early stages after its initial announcement of candidates included Roxanne Cabañero, the second woman to accuse comedian and TV host Vhong Navarro of rape.

After receiving negative feedback, Cabañero withdrew from the competition days before the press presentation of the candidates. She was quoted as saying that she backed out to give other candidates a chance and to focus on her ongoing case against Navarro.

The coronation night will take place on October 12 at the Mall of Asia Arena. Whoever becomes this year’s Miss World Philippines 2014 will represent the Philippines in the Miss World 2014 pageant scheduled on December 14 in London and hopefully duplicate the remarkable feat of Megan Young.

In the 64-year history of Miss World, only three countries have won back-to-back titles. These are Sweden (1951 and 1952), the United Kingdom (1964 and 1965) and India (1999 to 2000).
