Cinema One Global, one of the most watched channels on TFC’s platforms across the world, draws the curtain for its 10th year celebrations, marked by a new on-air look and featuring iconic movies and personalities of their time, this June.
Cinema One Global, the international version of the number one cable channel in the Philippines (based on Kantar Media), launched its own signal and programming to serve the more discerning needs of overseas Filipinos (OFs), longing for a taste of home through film and the companionship of Kapamilya stars in 2004. Cinema One Global, true to its claim “Kung Saan Ikaw Ang Bida,” launched a new programming to become a movie and drama channel, and included more movie choices, a marathon of widely watched Filipino teleseryes and reruns of well-loved drama series, to address more of OFs’ needs.
Now on its 10th year of ‘storytelling’ through film, Cinema One Global unveils its new look with a tagline fitting of its promise to adapt to the journey and changing needs of its OF viewers – “Saan Ka Man, Laging Kang Kasama.”
According to Ned Legaspi, head of Global Content, “As TFC celebrates 20 years of the ‘galing ng Filipino’ and Cinema One marks 20 years of service in the Philippines, we also mark a decade of stories and people in film which and who, together with Cinema One Global, has made an impact in the life of Filipinos detached from home. Our tagline speaks of our commitment to be that indispensable part of the path they chose.”
To date, Cinema One Global continues to have the biggest library of films with 3,500 movies which include the exclusive rights to air the blockbuster movies of ABS-CBN Corporation movie production and distribution company, Star Cinema.
Cinema One Global’s offering also includes the most celebrated films from other movie outfits such as Viva Films, Octo Arts, Seiko Films, Regal Films and more.
To stay true to its anniversary promise, Cinema One Global now offers Filipino movies that speak of the Filipino story and spirit.
Filipino Heroes
In line with TFC’s 20th year celebrating the “galing ng Filipino (forge ahead with the greatness of the Filipino),” Cinema One Global will retell the stories of heroes of their own time, through history and across the distance through its weekly blocks Bayani, Team Makabayan, and Mga Bagong Bayani. These remarkable films include: “El Presidente and “Tirad Pass;” “Dekada ’70” and “Eskapo,” and “Dubai,” and the TFC-produced “A Mother’s Story,” featuring Pokwang and directed by esteemed director John-D Lazatin.
“Red Carpet Premiere”
Also highlighting its anniversary line-up is the television premiere of 2013 hit “Four Sisters And A Wedding (June 7),” Cinema One Festivals 2011 finalist “Di Ingon, Nato” or Not Like Us (June 14),” breakthrough movie “Tuhog” (June 21) and independent film “Isda (June 28).
“Obra Ni Direk”
As a fitting offering for ten years of Cinema One Global and consistent with TFC’s theme of “forging ahead with the greatness of the Filipino,” five of the finest films in Philippine history are brought back for contemporary audiences to enjoy: respected director, the late Lino Brocka’s Maynila Sa Kuko ng Liwanag,” “Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang,” and multi-awarded director Mike de Leon’s “Sister Stella L,” including digitally restored “Himala,” and “Oro, Plata, Mata,” directed by two of the greatest directors: Brocka and Peque Gallaga.
Filipino Movie Icons
Cinema One Global is also bringing back the most respected names in the film industry and their most celebrated movies: Da King Fernando Poe Jr., Comedy King Dolphy, Bad Boy of Philippine Cinema Robin Padilla and more.
“Kilig Block”
Aside from Philippine icons, Cinema One Global is also bringing back the most widely followed love teams of their time in their most memorable films: Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz in “Now That I Have You,” Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu “I’ve Fallen For You,” Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta in “Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit,” and Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion in “Dear Heart.”
Blockbuster Nights
Through its new segment “Blockbuster Nights,” Cinema One Global is sure to draw the audience once again with the worldwide television airing of movies which topped the box office: “Feng Shui,” No Other Woman,” “Sisterakas,” and “You Changed My Life.”
Like a movie reel, Cinema One Global’s stories and characters seem as endless as its dedication to provide movie fans and Filipino audiences with tales of the Filipino spirit and greatness in the decades to come.
Cinema One Global is available via internet protocol television (IPTV), satellite, cable and online though the worldwide subsidiaries and affiliates of ABS-CBN Corporation.
