Star Cinema para gawing pelikula ang isa sa mga bestselling books ng
naturang publishing company: ang She’s Dating the Gangster na isinulat ni Bianca Bernardino.
Base sa official website ng Summit Media, narito ang buod ng She’s Dating the Gangster: “Based on the online fan fiction created by Bianca Bernardino, She’s Dating the Gangster tells the heart-wrenching tale of 17-year-old Athena Dizon and campus bad boy Kenji de los Reyes, two teenagers who begin a pretend relationship that ultimately transforms into something deeper.”
Noong January 28, sa conference room ng Star Cinema office, ABS-CBN compound ay nagkaroon ng contract signing ang Star Cinema at Summit Media sa pangunguna ng Star Cinema head na si Ms. Malou Santos, Summit Media President Ms. Lisa Gokongwei-Cheng, at ang writer ng libro na si Bianca Bernardino. Matapos ang contract signing ay nagkaroon ng pagkakataon ang PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) na makapanayam si Ms. Lisa at Bianca tungkol sa partnership na ito.
Anong masasabi mo na ang movie na ito ay part ng 20th anniversary celebration ng Star Cinema?
Bianca: “Nakakatuwa, hanggang ngayon nga ay
speechless pa rin ako kasi, yun nga, hindi ko naman inaakala na
mapipili siya ng Star Cinema na gawing movie.”
Bakit Star Cinema ang napili ninyo na magsapelikula ng book ng pinublish ng Summit Media?
Ms. Lisa: “I think Star Cinema—in the whole Philippines—is really the best, the best in the movie industry. They have the best quality films, at the same time, they have the best stars also. I’m very excited about Kathniel playing the couple in the book.”
Choice n’yo po ba sina Kathryn at Daniel ang gumanap na bida sa pelikula?
Ms. Lisa: “I think it was Bianca’s choice. When I read the book, I asked who will be the best stars to portray. It was Kathniel [Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla]. It was written for them.”
How many book copies were sold at ano ang naging impact ng libro sa mga readers?
Ms. Lisa: “In Philippine Bookstore, we printed 50,000 copies and it was sold. We printed another 20,000 copies to meet the demand. After this announcement, maybe we will print more copies but I have to say that this story has many teenagers of Bianca’s generation. These are the girls who are on their twenties up reading this book and they are familiar, very familiar with the title. No doubt that they will watch the movie, especially with Star Cinema behind it.”
Ano kaya ang reason bakit yung mga kabataan ay gustung gustong basahin itong book mo?
Bianca: “Honestly, hindi ko talaga alam kung ano yung nakita nila sa book ko na ito, kasi nung ginagawa ko ito…for fun lang, parang hobby, isinulat ko na lang kung ano yung maisip ko dati. Sila nagsasabi na, ‘Ang ganda!’ Nagulat na lang ako na after kong matapos yung story, ang dami na palang nagbabasa na nagsabing maganda raw, parang package na daw. May sobrang malungkot na part, na feeling nila makatotohanan talaga. Nagulat ako na kinontak ako ng Summit na ipupublish daw nila yung story.”
Bakit sina Kathryn at Daniel ang naisip mo na mag-play ng role?
Bianca: “Kasi, si Daniel kasi medyo bad boy yung pino-portray niya sa TV. Akala natin ganun siya pero nakikita ko na medyo sweet pala siya na tao despite of being a bad boy image. Medyo ganun yung karakter nung guy sa book ko.
“Si Kathryn naman kasi medyo parang underdog na palaban, e, ganun yung girl dito sa book na kahit na anong gawin sa kanya ay hindi pa rin sya nag gi-give-up.”
