In a report on “Bandila,” Vhong Navarro’s manager Chito Rono
and his lawyer met with DILG Secretary Mar Rojas to ask for increased
protection for the actor and his family. Atty. Dennis Manalo explained
why they did so. “..sa bahay ni Mr. Vhong Navarro, na merong hindi kilalang tao na umaaligid. Aside
from this, Mr. Vhong Navarro has been receiving anonymous text
messages. Through the Philippine National Police, we have been advised
that they will immediately provide police visibility in the residence of
Mr. Vhong Navarro to assure that there will be no further threats or
attack that can be inflicted upon him.”
Vhong’s
camp also asked the authorities if it is probable that the gun license
of Cedric Lee and the men allegedly involved in Vhong’s beating be
revoked. “We asked for a revocation and we have been assured that it
will reviewed. Lahat po ng kanilang baril titingnan.”
However,
Lee and Cornejo's counsel Atty. Howard Calleja argued that it is his
client that needs protection. “If there’s one person that needs
security, that needs special attention, that needs to be secured by the
PNP, by the DILG, it should be Deniece Cornejo. Tingnan mo lang yung mga social sites e, sasabuyan kita ng asido, pagtatangkaan kita..”
Calleja also reiterated that Lee’s group didn’t have a gun. “That is also contradictory to the story again of Vhong. Sabi niya it was Cedric na nagtutok, e paano siya tutukan kung nauna siya kay Cedric.”
Also,
business partners of Cedric Lee, who didn’t want to be named, said they
are already affected by Cedric’s involvement in this case. They
expressed concern that some clients may pullout from their projects.
This is contrary to Atty. Calleja’s statement regarding his clients. “Ok naman, my clients are (in) high spirits. They know that the truth is with them, and as I said, they will face this case squarely.”
