Even as relief goods from all over the world continue to pour in for
the victims of killer typhoon Yolanda, local entertainers are doing
their share to be part of increasing fund-raising efforts for the same
cause.
Last Sunday, Sharon Cuneta and Ogie Alcasid turned their weekly musical show on TV5, “The Mega and the Songwriter”, into “Gabi ng Kanta at Biyaya”, a successful telethon that raised P30 million in cash pledges including P10 million from the Megastar herself who evenly divided her last-minute pledge to the Aboitiz Foundation and the Alagang Kapatid Foundation.
Not content with giving the P370,000 proceeds of her successful impromptu garage sale at Market! Market! over the weekend, Anne Curtis is also donating her entire talent fee for the Qatar leg of her “Annebisyosa: No Other Concert” series this Friday, November 15 at the Qatar National Convention Center in Doha. Anne made the announcement during a guest appearance on “KrisTV” this Tuesday.
Angel Locsin has been working side by side with the Philippine National Red Cross in their relief operations. On top of that, she is auctioning one of her cars, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle, for the benefit of Yolanda victims, according to Vernon Sarne, the editor-in-chief of popular motoring magazine Top Gear Philippines.
Regine Velasquez and Julia Montes will hold their own separate garage sales for the same worthy cause as well. Regine’s husband, Ogie Alcasid, will also include his own personal items in her garage sale.
Over 40 performers including Wolfgang, Rivermaya, Parokya ni Edgar, Chicosci, Callalily, Moonstar88, Never the Strangers, Save Me Hollywood, Rico Blanco, Rocksteddy,Gloc 9, Karylle, and many more will take to the stage in the annual “Myx Mo! 2013” on Tuesday.
Considered as the country’s biggest annual music marathon event, this year’s show held at the SM MOA grounds is likewise for the benefit of Yolanda victims with ticket prices ranging from P50 to P350 per head.
This Wednesday, rock artists Jonan Aguilar, Imago, Flippin’ Soul Stompers, Sandwich, Kjwan, Pedicab, and Stick Figgaz will perform in “Instagig”, another Yolanda benefit show organized by the Philippine Red Cross in partnership with Radio Republic. Venue will be at 19 East in Sucat, Parañaque which will also serve as relief center for those who wish to donate in cash or in kind. Entrance ticket for “Instagig” is P200 per head.
As posted by Ormoc congresswoman and “Showbiz Police” host Lucy Torres-Gomez in her Instagram account, Kris Aquino donated P400,000 to the typhoon victims. Dingdong Dantes has likewise pledged his support and will personally deliver relief goods to Lucy’s native Ormoc City, one of the hardest-hit areas during the typhoon.
In Canada, website MENAFN.com reported that Filipino-Canadian singer Martha Joy who was a finalist in the 2007 edition of “Canadian Idol” will host the first of a series of fundraising concerts in Toronto on November 22 where the proceeds will go directly to designated charities and archdioses in the Philippines.
According to the website’s report, “There are over 200,000 Filipinos living in the Greater Toronto area who have been directly or indirectly affected by the devastation in the Philippines”.
