Viva Films has greenlighted “Miss X”, the sequel to Gil Portes’
classic 1980 film of the same name that starred Vilma Santos in one of
the most iconic roles of her career — as a window parlor prostitute in
Amsterdam’s red light district.
One of Viva’s prized talents, Cristine Reyes, will star in the film as the biological daughter of Vilma’s character, a call center agent who goes searching for the latter in Amsterdam and ends up recreating her odyssey in the dark underbelly of one of Europe’s most fascinating cities.
Portes will direct from a screenplay by InterAksyon entertainment editor Enrique Ramos.
Portes is eyeing GMA actor Aljur Abrenica for the leading man part, subject to Viva’s approval. The role is that of the ex-boyfriend of Cristine’s character who follows her to Amsterdam and desperately tries to convince her to come home with him.
Mark Gil was Vilma Santos’ leading man in the original film. As in the first “Miss X”, the sequel will be shot partly in the Dutch capital. Filming is expected to start in January.
Producers have expressed interest in a “Miss X” sequel for many years. In 2008, OctoArts Films optioned the project and reserved the lead role for Katrina Halili. However, the project fell through after Katrina figured in the infamous Hayden Kho sex video scandal.
