The Cast of 'Jasmine' Talks about the Upcoming Show.

TV5's upcoming meta-drama Jasmine tells the fictional story of a rising star whose life and acting career is disrupted by a stalker named Maskara. We caught up with some of the cast members of this daring new program during a recent pictorial, and they shared with us their thoughts on the show and their respective roles in it.

Star Jasmine Curtis-Smith told us that the show carefully treads the line between fact and fiction. "I think the biggest challenge will probably be defining reality from fiction. Because it's very close to reality, baka maniwala ang mga tao na ganun talaga ang buhay ko. Little details are the same, like the fact that I'm from Australia and my name is Jasmine. But I think the audience is smart enough to be able to distinguish what is real," she said.

She also told us that, given the program's showbiz setting, we will most likely be seeing some famous personalities making cameo appearances. "It's just like how they do it in Hollywood, like in the show Entourage or the movie Jack and Jill where they had Al Pacino play himself. We are definitely planning on doing that. Actually, pilot episode pa lang meron na."

Apart from special guest stars, there is also an ensemble cast of recurring characters that support Jasmine on the show. Vin Abrenica, who currently stars in TV5's Beki Boxer, explained to us his role: "I play Alexis Vergara. Ang role ko dito ay isang artista na dating child star. Ako daw ang Prince of Primetime ng TV5. It's a very flattering part!"

To prepare for his role as TV5's Golden Boy, Vin looked at the careers of other actors who have been in showbiz from a young age. "'Yung mga peg ko sina Baron [Geisler] at John Prats. I've been in showbiz for one year pa lang, so siguro I'll look to my kuya [Aljur] rin."

Meanwhile Vin's former Artista Academy "classmate" Nicole Estrada also has a supporting role. "I play Sarah Mae, the sidekick of Marvelous [Alejo's] character Selina. I'm a mean girl in Jasmine's new show within the show. I'm an aspiring actress who would do anything to be famous."

Nicole thinks Jasmine's unique premise sets it apart from other shows on TV today. "The concept's very fresh. I haven't seen anyone take the approach we're taking here, locally, showing something fictional that's still realistic," she said. "It's not the typical story. Everyone has to watch it."
