Makakasama ng aktor sina Angel Aquino, Yul Servo, Mylene Dizon, at Philip Salvador sa nasabing TV movie, na tungkol sa isang love affair na mauuwi sa trahedya. Ito ang ika-apat at panghuli sa Love Month offerings ng Studio5 ngayong Pebrero. Nauna na rito ang The Lady Next Door, When I Fall in Love, at The Replacement Bride na talagang tinangkilik ng Kapatid viewers.
Nakausap ng press si Derek sa special screening ng pelikula kamakailan lang, kung saan na-bring up ang kanyang co-star na si Angel at si Direk Joel Lamangan. Muli ring naungkat ang dahilan ng kanyang paglipat sa Kapatid network, at siyempre, ang kanyang lovelife!
Kumusta naman kaya ang muli nilang pagtatrabaho ni Angel?
“Grabe si Angel. She’s still as beautiful when I worked with her in Magkaribal. She looks exactly the same. She hasn’t changed. Parang she hasn’t aged.
Nicest thing she said on the last day was, kasi may bed scene kami eh, she said she was so happy na ako ang katrabaho niya sa mga eksenang ganun.”
Kumusta naman ang naging experience niya kay Direk Joel na kilalang mahigpit? Balitang pinuri ng batikang direktor ang pag-arte ng aktor!
“It was a privilege to work with Direk… I like how disciplined he is. He gives me the freedom to express myself an actor. Kaya nakakatuwa that a director like that gave me such nice words.”
Dahil sunud-sunod ang projects at bilang isa sa pinakamalalaking pangalan ng Kapatid network, totoo nga bang siya ang highest-paid actor ng TV5?
“I don’t know if I am… I don’t compare my career with any actor. So for me it doesn’t matter if I am –and I’m sure that I’m not— I don’t really care if I am the highest or the lowest. Basta I negotiate my own career. And I feel that I have to hear what the network thinks I’m worth, and what I feel I’m worth. And that’s where you negotiate.”
Pero totoo nga ba na dahil sa pera kaya siya lumipat mula sa Dos?
“Ang daming lumabas na, when I made the move, ang basehan dun dahil mukha daw akong pera so dapat malaki [ang talent fee ko]. But that’s not true. Halos pareho lang ang offer ng 2 sa akin.
So kung hindi talent fee ang dahilan, bakit siya umalis sa kanyang dating istasyon?
[TV5] they offered me something that’s me. Olympics. Amazing Race. So I gotta follow what I love to do. I asked Channel 2 if they were going to give me a show like that, but it’s not in their path.
They have so many excellent actors over in their network that can do what I do. So I felt like they don’t really need me there. So that’s why I made the move with 5. 5 really got to know what I love and what I’m wired to do.
Sa usaping love life naman, true or gimik lang ba ang relasyon nila ni Cristine Reyes last year?
“Hindi kami ganung klaseng tao. We did have a very, very, very short [laughs] relationship which we both wanted to get into…. But sometimes two people are meant to be friends. We decided it was weird for us to be in a relationship. It was awkward.”
So, kumusta naman ang kanyang lovelife ngayon?
“Ang status ko? Never ko muna pag-uusapan. Tama na muna, please! [laughs]”
Pero gaya ng role niya sa Bawat Sandali, nasubukan na nga ba niya ang maging “other man”?
“Not that I know of. Let’s just keep it at that para masaya! [laughs] No, I’ve never experienced anything like that. Hindi ako ahas. Kapag may tie-up, kahit boyfriend, stay away, stay away!”
