Kapatid Primetime Princess "Eula Caballero" considers herself ‘One of the Boys’ in Real Life.

For some reason, TV5 primetime princess Eula Caballero was enrolled by her parents in a high school for boys in Cebu that was just starting to accept girls.

“I was sent to the University of San Carlos boys high school. Kaka-open lang niya sa girls at noon pa lang nagsisimulang maging coed. In our class, we were only five girls while the rest, about 38 of them were boys,” Eula said during the recent story conference for her upcoming new sitcom, “One of the Boys”.
So yes, she was literally one of the boys even back then.

“Yung mga kaibigan kong dinadala sa bahay, mga lalake talaga kasi wala naman akong choice dahil sila yung mga classmates ko. Sa grupo ng mga barkada ko nung high school, dalawa lang ang babae, the rest puro boys na,” she added.

Even now when Eula is already a TV5 talent, she confesses that she still goes to the dressing rooms of her male co-stars in “Tropa Mo Ko Unli” where she is a mainstay and just ask them to eat as a group in between takes.

So when the sitcom about Gabriella “Gabi” Silang, a lady cab driver who was raised by her father, Daddy Jerry, in a “talyer” full of male workers, the 18-year-old actress jumped at the chance to portray a character similar to her own.

The project also allows Eula to work with two co-stars that she personally looks up to. One of them is Joey De Leon who plays her father and whom she considers as a real father figure in the business.

“I hope to learn from him, especially when it comes to comic timing and delivering punchlines. Ang galing at ang bilis niyang mag-isip pagdating dun,” she exclaimed.

The other is Nadine Samonte who plays Jana, a “kontrabida” character for the first time in her career. Nadine and Eula worked together in the TV5 teleseryes “The Sisters” and “Sa Ngalan ng Ina” in 2011.

“I’m so happy na nakatrabaho ko na ulit si Ate Nadine. Para ko talaga siyang kapatid. It’s very nice to work with someone na hindi lang kasama sa trabaho kung hindi pamilya na ang turing mo sa kanila,” Eula enthused.
Although Eula has never been out of projects in TV5, she considers it a blessing in disguise that it took a while for “One of the Boys” to be fully developed, allowing her to have time to attend to some personal matters and spend more time with her family.

“I do like working. Kahit everyday pa yan, that’s never an issue naman with me. But it’s also nice to work and have a lot of time with your family, with your friends. Mas balanced yung buhay. You feel like you’re living,” she noted.

Unlike her last teleserye, “Cassandra: Warrior Angel” which stayed on the air for four months, both “One of the Boys” — which premieres this coming March — and her other series “Tropa Mo Ko Unli” — which airs every Saturday — are once-a-week affairs that translate to a more comfortable taping schedule for her. It also doesn’t hurt that both programs are comedies so there are no heavy scenes that can be emotionally draining.

Although she keeps hearing talks about other stars transferring networks here and there, Eula said she is hardly affected by it as she continues to be very happy with TV5 which has been her home since she started her career in 2010.

“I have nothing against those who transfer networks. Kung saan sila masaya, eh di dun sila. Pero dito sa TV5, naalagaan ako, nahuhubog ako bilang artista, bilang tao, bilang kaibigan and I think this is a good environment for me. Dito ako napapasaya ako at nai-inspire.”

It’s also the place where Eula has no problem being just one of the boys.
