The Filipino Channel (TFC), the premier Filipino network committed to support overseas Filipinos (OFs) in their journey in a foreign land, and the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration’s (OWWA), the government agency
tasked to promote the over-all well-being of OFs and their dependents,
recently joined hands in a MOA signing held at Restaurant 9501, ELJCC
Communications Center in Quezon City, Philippines.
OWWA, headed by Carmelita Dimzon said “We have been looking forward to this partnership since this will give our agency the chance to promote its programs covering welfare management, livelihood, and including reintegration on a wider scale, given TFC’s reach and platforms.”
During the MOA signing, Deputy Director Josefino Torres said: “This is a new kind of partnership for us in OWWA. Before, we were doing the information dissemination on the programs for OFs ourselves. Now that we have this partnership, we expect the reach of the information to be widened for the betterment and welfare of our OFs.”
According to ABS-CBN Global Ltd. Managing Director for Asia-Pacific Ailene Averion, “We have also been looking forward to this tie-up for years because we share OWWA’s vision of looking after the well-being of our distant kababayans. TFC understands the challenges of the OFs and it has always been in our mission to propagate the improvement of their lives abroad.”
During the MOA signing, OWWA and TFC also announced the 2014 launch of the MTV
“Abot-Kamay Kita,” to be performed by X-Factor grand winner KZ Tandingan, who could be an OF herself as she has performed for TFC shows overseas. The video talks about how families can be within reach with service that OWWA as a government agency can provide and which TFC supports.
TFC officials welcomed esteemed guests from OWWA as well as ABS-CBN Corporation including Head for News and Current Affairs Ging Reyes and Head for, AM Radio, Cable Channel, Teleradyo and Web Marah Faner Capuyan and Head for abs-cbn.com Anna Rodriguez.
Earlier in the week, TFC also welcomed Model OFW Family of the Year (MOFYA) for the land-based category, the Maulana family, the winning family from Cotabato City, whose head of family, Esmael, has been working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for years already but has not failed to sustain the needs of his family, inspired others with his success story, and most importantly, given back to community.
Maui Maulana, a member of the brood said “Noong una tinignan namin yung profile noong ibang families. Deserving din naman sila bilang prestigious families. So hindi namin ine-expect.” (When we looked at other nominees, we felt they deserved the award. We were then surprised to clinch the award).
His brother Muiz added that the family also felt like winning all over again when they visited the ABS-CBN studios and witnessed the “Tulong Na, Tabang Na, Tayo Na” solidarity concert last week, upon the invitation of TFC. “Ang saya at napaka-exciting!” (It was truly fun and exciting).
While the Maulana family is testament to the service that the government can provide them and the kapamilya treatment that the network can share, TFC and OWWA’s tie-up is further proof of how this kind of care can extend beyond information and entertainment.
