"The Apartment" Style Edition Design your Destiny

Episode 1 of The Apartment has passed and has proven that Season 3 truly is going to be bigger and better than ever, with a line-up of best-friends, beauty queens, musicians, models, couples and siblings on hand, eagerly awaiting the challenges that lie ahead.

There may be varying skill-sets, professions and egos in the air, but there is no denying that all contestants remain amateur designers in the eyes of watchful host and judge, legendary designer Jamie Durie, and the candid and renowned Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen. It is the essential influence of these two design-moguls that will guide and advise who will win a brand new double-story home, eternally free of rent and mortgage!

This week, it was the demands of executing a master bedroom that got the contestants into the designing spirit, and love was in the air, with romance as the ruling theme. Whilst Adam and Adrian enjoyed getting in touch with their effeminate sides - exploring notions of passion and shopping up a storm, Vineet and Priyanka proved the more argumentative pair, despite their promising to bring out the best in each other. Who said married couples know better?

Yvette and Sonya overcame their fears of power tools, broken glass, and getting their hands dirty and bloodstained, proving to be more up for the shedding their girly-girl exteriors than fellow competitors, team beauty-queens Ines and Jennifer. These girls, however, still made a valiant attempt to get hands-on with their designs, proving they are worth their weight in the competition, even if it was just through sitting on their furniture, just to make it stick.

By the time judging rolled around, Pearlyn and Nara had discovered that stripper poles in the place of a wardrobe isn't on everybody's master bedroom wish-list, scoring themselves an unwanted position in the bottom two. Narrowly escaping elimination, they learned that channelling their eccentricities into their designs will require more care and precision in the future.
But it was single mum Adriana and voice talent Azaria who together had to claim the title of the team 'first eliminated' from Season 3 of The Apartment. The thickness and heaviness of their colour scheme translated as too angry and fiery for a brief that called for a soft and charming design.

And what better contrast to this could be created other than Yvette and Sonya's effort? Their use of a self-described 'poo-brown', or in more technical terms, 'chocolate kiss' paint choice and a Parisian-inspired concept, achieved all the grace, polish, and slickness that a romantic master bedroom could desire, classing them worthy week-one challenge winners.

The drama has only just begun, and true contenders have already started to surface. Nine
action-packed, one-hour episodes remain, and will culminate in an exhilarating 90-minute grand finale. Who will continue to rise to the demands of designing their destiny
