Even before she departed for Moscow on
Monday, Philippine representative to the 2013 Miss Universe beauty
pageant Ariella Arida was already considered one of the favorites in
most online predictions.
Since arriving in the Russian capital last Tuesday, Arida’s momentum continues to be on the upswing with at least one news site ranking her as number one in its Top 5.
Last September, the Australian edition of the International Business Times had carefully analyzed and correctly predicted the victory of Megan Young in the Miss World pageant in Bali, Indonesia. It has also consistently given its two thumbs up to Arida in its Miss Universe updates.
In its latest post-arrival forecast posted Saturday, the IB Times ranked Arida at the top of its five candidates to watch in Miss Universe. Aside from Miss Philippines, the site’s other four picks in descending order are Miss USA Erin Brady, Miss Israel Yityish Aynaw, Miss France Hinarani de Longeaux and Miss Great Britain Amy Willerton.
I Love Chile, another reputable news site based in Santiago, Chile, acknowledged that Miss Philippines is “one of competitors with the best chances to win” in the pageant. The site also picked Miss USA, Miss Mexico Cynthia Duque and their country’s own Maria Jesus Matthei as “other important participants”.
The Dubai-based Emirates 24/7 posted that Ariella Arida and Megan Young are capable of achieving the double victory of India’s Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai, who won Miss Universe and Miss World respectively in 1994.
“If Filipino beauty is the current flavour of the global pageant industry, then watch out for Ariella Arida,” the news site posted.
Another site that included Miss Philippines in its list of Miss Universe pre-arrival favorites is the fan site Ms. UniversePageant Hotspot in its October 17 post. However, the inclusion is with some reservation on their part as the webmasters admitted to be “not sold” yet on Arida.
“We were expecting the transformation we saw in Janine Tugunon and Shamcey Supsup. She may have had the transformation, but they’re not enough yet. When we saw her send-off photos, we were kinda not contented with the result, but hey she has improved to say the least,” the site posted.
While they acknowledged that Arida is a very popular candidate, they also warned that she needs to step up her game if she is to emerge triumphant in the end.
“What’s surprising us is that most pageant sites love her. She topped in July’s prediction list, and made it again this October. We had her in our top 5 last June. Pretty cool to see, but she has to make it right in Russia. There should be no room for mistakes. She has to shine; scene-stealer, attention-grabber, head-turner.”
