Basketball legends and single parents Vergel Meneses and Benjie Paras
share with Antony Taberna the hardships of raising children alone in
“Tapatan ni Tunying” this Thursday (September 26).
“You have to think of your kids first in everything that you do,” shared Vergel, PBA’s “Aerial Voyager.”
Meanwhile, PBA’s “Tower of Power” Benjie said he is proud of his sons, 17-year-old Andre and 15-year-old Kobe who have become basketball players in their respective schools.
Basketball may run in the Paras family’s blood, but for Benjie, education outweighs athletics.
“They have to prioritize their studies before sports,” he said.
Benjie will also talk about his controversial failed marriage with former actress Jackie Forster in the episode.
After retiring from basketball and focusing on his showbiz career for nine years, Benjie went back to the hard court last year to guide San Beda Red Lions in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), alongside fellow PBA legend Coach Ronnie Magsanoc.
“My knowledge in basketball has revived because of coaching. I am helping younger players to share with them what I achieved before,” Benjie said.
Similarly, Vergel also returns to the basketball scene as the head coach of Jose Rizal University Bombers in the NCAA and assistant coach of Air 21 in the PBA. He admitted that playing basketball is easier compared to coaching, which motivates him to inculcate values for better team play.
“Coaching is harder and more challenging. You have to deal with 15 players with different attitudes,” he shared.
